The City Collaborator Awards recognize change-makers who link educational opportunities for students with multiple aspects of the built environment – from planning, design and development, to land use, sustainability and construction. This year’s award recipients are being recognized for their work impacting quality public education as well as their impact on to the built environment through multi-disciplinary collaboration. These awards are presented by the CityLab High School Foundation.
MIGUEL SOLIS
AWARD RECEIPIENT
Miguel Solis currently serves as Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Commit Partnership. Since 2009, he has served the residents of Dallas in the areas of education, housing, and transportation. Miguel began his professional career as a member of President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and soon after, was selected as a Teach For America corps member in Dallas, TX where he taught 8th grade social studies in the Dallas public schools. Solis would later serve as special assistant to the superintendent of the school system; co-found the non-profit Latino Center for Leadership Development; and run the urban policy think tank Coalition for a New Dallas. In 2013, Miguel was elected to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees at the age of 27. During his tenure he was also elected as the Board President and Vice-President, making him the youngest person to ever hold these roles.

From climate change and resilient architecture to human health and workplace wellness, Gensler designers strive to make the places people live, work, and play more inspiring, more resilient, and more impactful. In addition, Gensler has partnered with over 200 community organizations and amplifies its outreach activities not only through partnerships on CityLab High School initiatives but also through involvement with the ACE (Architecture Construction and Engineering) Mentor Program, American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Canstruction, DIFFA, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, We Care, and many others.
